The Chinadesk on the Shanghai Expo

The province of Zuid-Holland, supported by the Science Alliance China Desk, organized two very successful weeks at the World Expo in Shanghai. The first week, the Holland Water Week (June 6-11) was all about Water Technology. The Dutch delegation that travelled to Shanghai for this was led by Mrs. Lenie Dwarshuis, Vice-Governor of Zuid-Holland province. Some of the activities in this week were attended by minister Tineke Huizinga and prince Pieter Christiaan van Oranje.

The second week, the Dutch Life Sciences Week (June 13-19) had as subject Life Sciences. The Dutch delegation that went to Shanghai for this week was led by two delegation leaders, Mr. Asje van Dijk, Vice-Governor of Zuid-Holland Province and Mr. Dirk Jan van den Berg, Head of the Executive Board of Delft Technical University and former Ambassador of the Netherlands in China.

During both weeks several seminars were organized in the VIPLounge of the Holland Pavilion. These seminars were attended by both Dutch and Chinese professionals, around a 100 per seminar. Many cooperation agreements were signed between Dutch and Chinese organizations. Besides that Mrs. Dwarshuis contributed for the WWF to the opening of the World Estuary Alliance and Mr. Van Dijk invited a group of around 60 disabled people from Shanghai for an exclusive visit to the Holland Pavilion.
