The roundtable, by invitation only, will be chaired by Lord Woolf of Barnes (former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales; Barrister at Blackstone Chambers).

~ 7 October 2010 ~ WLF is organizing a stakeholder workshop on an International Mediation Facility for CSR-Related Disputes.

~ 6 and 7 December 2010 ~ We are delighted to announce that the World Legal Forum Foundation will hold its fourth annual conference, entitled “Connecting Business and Human Rights.”The World Legal Forum Foundation pursues its mission to facilitate a reunion between public and private actors in international law by involving multinational stakeholders into a dialogue on the importance, the role and the structure of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a tool of governance.

Globalization has raised new challenges for international law concerning the interaction between public and private actors: the growing need for an exchange of views entails the creation of legal concepts for international business and thus promotes a new dynamic relationship between business and law. Today, the relationship between international law and international business is one of mutual need. Business is as dependant on the international legal order as international law is on the support of business.

The emergence and rise of Corporate Social Responsibility is a testimony of the growing interdependence between the two entities. Beyond their economic functions, firms gradually accept the requirement of setting a minimum threshold for business conduct, guaranteed by effective drivers for business implementation and enforcement.

The confirmed keynote speaker of the conference will be Mr. John Ruggie (United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Business and Human Rights; Berthold Beitz Professor of International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government).
The conference will take place in the Peace Palace, The Hague, the Netherlands. For the programme, detailed information and registration please visit www.worldlegalforum.org, or contact the WLF Secretariat by email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
