Secondary schools play a prominent role in preparing the youth of today for their participation in our society. Teaching them only the necessary subject matter is not enough. It is also important to make them aware of the study and career possibilities they have after passing their exams in an as early stage as possible. A lot of boys and girls don’t know what different studies comprise of and which study is necessary for a specific kind of career.
Therefore we initiated the ‘Op de Hoogte’ project which integrates study and professional development, by introducing the students directly to the universities, knowledge institutions and companies.
The organisations involved in this project operate in study related (business) areas. The seminar takes place either at school or at the Hoftoren (the building of the Ministry of OCW). Students will be informed about recent and prominent developments within their field of interest, by means of lectures from scientists and/or managers
Objectives ‘Op de Hoogte’
Op de Hoogte aims to increase the number of students choosing further higher education studies by informing them about potential studies and career paths. We aim to design a program that is very much related to what will be taught at school and which is also in the students interest. The ‘Op Hoogte’ lectures offer a overall view on study and career paths which help students in making their own choices.
Knowledge in practices;
During the last few years, Science Alliance and the Ministry of Education and Science have organised different lectures in which we spoke about ‘here’ and ‘now’, but also about ‘later’, as knowledge is always in progress. These interactive presentations, which are suited to the different knowledge levels of the pupils, were followed by a visit to a special site, where they could put their knowledge into practice. For example we paid visits to companies, knowledge institutions, universities, or museums and let the students join an exclusive company tour and experience what truly happens in the workplace.
