'In de Diepte' - Masterclasses for Teachers and Deans
The Netherlands is increasingly becoming a knowledge based society. Its ambition is to become part one of Europe’s elite countries in the field of innovation, science and education. Deans and teachers play an prominent role in educating students, not only by providing the necessary subject matter, but also by preparing them on their participation in our society. It is not easy to give them a realistic view on our continuously changing world. The objective of ‘In de Diepte’ is to inform deans and teachers of the most recent and inspiring developments within a certain field. This objective will be met by organizing lectures by a scientist from a Dutch university or knowledge institution (the “in-depth” aspect) or an employee from a company or organisation (the “professional” aspect.) The up-to-date information can be passed onto the students, who can take this into consideration while choosing their future study and career path.

Objectives
By organising In de Diepte Master classes we would like to motivate secondary schools to:

Go further into their specialism, by providing teachers with actual knowledge and expressive examples

Help their student in their’ consideration of their further study and career path

Pursue collaboration between teachers, schools, knowledge institutions and companies, leading to more cohesion and knowledge exchange and providing schools with a  continuous input for their classes.

Professionalize; inspire deans and teachers to apply knowledge about recent developments, studies and careers in this classes.

In the last few years Science Alliance in collaboration with Platform Betatechniek, The Universium Program and Jet-Net, has organised more than 100 ‘In de Diepte’ lectures focussing on a multidisciplinary subject interfacing all school subjects related to science and technology.

By means of lectures, deans and teachers are being informed about the latest developments in this sector;

Knowledge in practice
Insight into knowledge on current developments in the science and technology field and how it can be used in practice.

Career perspectives in science and technology
New inventions open new doors, what are the possibilities for graduated beta students?

Suggestions for the class

The interaction between lecturers and teachers, leads to better exchange of knowledge and experience within the science and technology field, which may help to increase the number of students to choose a more scientific and technological orientated career path .
