Dutch Clinical Trial Foundation (DCTF)
The Dutch Clinical Trial Foundation, or DCTF, is based on a sectorwide cooperation with the intention to connect the (inter)national pharmaceutical industry to the Dutch medical knowledge infrastructure in the field of clinical research.
DCTF was set up, because the Netherlands, despite the high quality of medical research in hospitals and general practitioner practices, are not benefiting enough from the worldwide increase in clinical research. This research on humans is essential in the development of new and improved medicines, vaccines and medical devices such as pacemakers en artificial joints. Possible reasons of this lagging behind are amongst others that procedures for the protocol approval and patient recruitment are not being followed enough.
The foundation's mission is to maintain and improve the competitive position of the Netherlands to stimulate innovation in the field of healthcare and drug development. The goals are:
1. Improved patient's access to clinical trials to stimulate patient participation
2. Improvement of clinical research and maintaining/improving the Dutch marketshare
3. Improved knowledge and educational level of healthcare professionals.
